Document 112 - Amendment to the Act on State Social Support

Published date: 18.02.2026 |Processed date: 18.02.2026 |Session 10

Summary

The Act increases the total amount of the parental allowance from CZK 350 000 to CZK 370 000 with effect from 1 January 2027 and abolishes the limit on a child’s attendance at pre-school establishments to meet the personal care requirement. It introduces an automatic indexation mechanism that will allow the government to periodically increase the parental allowance in line with inflation when prices rise by at least 5%. The aim is to maintain the real value of the benefit, increase predictability for families and limit one-off step increases. The changes apply to children born or taken into care from 1 January 2027.

Government opinion on Print 112/0

Processed date: 19.03.2026
The government has rejected the MP’s proposal to increase the parental allowance from CZK 350 000 to CZK 370 000 and introduce automatic indexation, preferring the government’s own proposal with a higher increase to CZK 400 000 from January 2027. It criticises the proposed indexation mechanism as incompatible with flexible drawdown of the allowance and warns of the risks of automatic indexation for public finances. The change in the conditions for childcare for children up to 2 years of age is described as unsystematic and without substantive justification.
